The inspiration behind the design was to bring consumers closer to nature and offer a guilt-free snacking option. The 'h' in the brand name symbolizes health, handmade quality, warmth, and care, reflecting the brand's mission to provide tasty, allergy-free cookies. The design team aimed to communicate this concept through the packaging design, allowing customers to grasp the brand's essence at a glance.
What sets this design apart is its simplicity and purity. The packaging features images of the product, with unnecessary information stripped away. The choice of typeface and colors further emphasizes the natural, healthy ingredients used in the cookies. This minimalist approach aligns with the brand's commitment to offering snacks free of artificial additives.
The design was realized in response to a growing demand for healthier snack options, particularly for those with dietary restrictions such as diabetes. The launch of H and Bake marked a significant milestone in the Taiwanese snack industry, introducing a new range of gluten-free products. The design team wanted to convey the brand's original intention of love and warmth through the brand identity, leading to the birth of H and Bake.
The project, which began in May 2015 in Taipei, Taiwan, took a year to complete. The design team, led by Project Director Ko Lin and Design Lead Ai Honma, conducted extensive research on gluten-free diets and market demands. The design was also influenced by similar products in other markets. The team faced challenges in convincing the client to simplify the design and stand out from well-known Western brands. However, their efforts paid off when the design was awarded by Red Dot Communication Design in 2016.
Schema, Inc.'s H and Bake is a testament to the power of design in communicating a brand's ethos. The packaging design, devoid of unnecessary embellishments, mirrors the brand's commitment to simplicity and purity. This award-winning design not only revolutionized the packaging of healthy snacks but also set a benchmark for future designs in the industry.
